Graduated in Chemistry by the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2010. His PhD research was focused on synthesis of new molecular fluorescence devices for MALDI-TOF-MS, metals, protein and biomarkers detection, and Synthesis and Applications of Smart Nanoparticles (Gold, Magnetite and Silica) for PROTEOMICS applications. Dr. Fernandez defended in 2012 his PhD supervised by Dr. Jose Luis Capelo and Dr. Cristina Nuñez-Glez in the University of Vigo (Spain).

Dr. Fernández-Lodeiro was a Postdoctoral researcher at the Instituto de Química at University of Sao Paulo, Brazil, under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Alcindo A. Dos Santos during 2013-2104 and in the LAQV and UCIBIO-REQUIMTE, FCT-UNL, at the BIOSCOPE group under the supervision of Prod. Dr. Jose Luis Capelo, and the co-supervision of Prof. Carlos Lodeiro.

Actually he is an Junior Researcher in the LAQV-REQUIMTE integrated in the BIOSCOPE Group. He is responsible for the Laboratory of New Green Methodologies applied to the Design and Synthesis of Metallic Nanoparticles at the Lab 308

His research is focussed on the synthesis of new  smart metallic  functionalized nanoparticles for biomedical and environmental applications, development of new green synthetic routes with green materials, as well as in the development of new clean and safe synthetic methods using cheap commercial raw materials.
